KEY STATISTICS 

  • A planning application was originally submitted to North Cornwall District Council Planning Department in 2008 (Ref: 2008/01432);
  • Further Supplementary Information was submitted to Cornwall Council in June 2009;
  • The application was approved by Cornwall Council's Strategic Planning Committee in October 2009, to be later overturned in July 2010. Click here to read Community Windpower Ltd's press release
  • The proposal consisted of 20 wind turbines with a total capacity of up to 50MW;
  • Typical turbine dimensions: 80 metres to the hub, blades 45.2m long and rotor diameter 92.5m (total height to tip is 126.25m);
  • Electricity generated would supply the local distribution network providing much needed electrical generation in Cornwall and the South West;
  • The windfarm would contribute approximately 50% of Cornwall's 2010 Renewable Energy target in one development;
  • Farming can continue right up to turbine bases;
  • Turbine locations have been designed to stand within abandoned taxi-ways and runways within Davidstow Woods;
  • Ecological proposals and enhancements included a Sanctuary Area to be managed specifically for Golden Plover, implementation of a no shooting zone, creation of a Biodiversity Management Committee.
