KEY STATISTICS

  • Davidstow Community Windfarm was approved by Cornwall Council on 13th October 2009.
  • A planning application was submitted to North Cornwall District Council Planning Department in 2008, Reference 2008/01432.
  • Further Supplementary Information was submitted to Cornwall Council in June 2009.
  • The proposal consists of 20 wind turbines with a total capacity of up to 50MW.
  • Typical turbine dimensions: 80 metres to the hub, blades 45.2m long and rotor diameter 92.5m (total height to tip is 126.25m).
  • Electricity generated will power approximately 28,000 homes, and by supplying the local distribution network will provide much needed electrical generation in the South West.
  • The windfarm would contribute approximately 50% of Cornwall's 2010 Renewable Energy target.
  • Davidstow Woods will be retained and enhanced along with improvements to access for recreational purposes.
  • Farming can continue right up to turbine bases.
  • Turbine locations have been designed to stand within abandoned taxi-ways and runways within Davidstow Woods.
